How Maine tests it. General guidance The statewide test format is not confirmed. Rehearse every applicable inspection item and check your testing site. Source: Maine official CDL manual / inspection material, Section 11.1.2, PDF page 143 (new VI effective 2026-11-01); transition letter pages 1–2.

The official letter makes the new vehicle-inspection module effective 2026-11-01; basic-control skills change on 2027-09-01. The new manual lists four air-brake checks. Before the VI transition, confirm the applicable procedure with BMV; the app does not auto-activate a future format.

Say two things about every item

What it is, and its condition. For most parts that means: securely mounted, not cracked, bent or broken, not leaking. Point to or touch the part while you say it. The air brake test is the one place where order matters as much as words.
